I had long made up my mind, but Waiting is painful. What I know is Passion makes you do things. Working towards your ultimate dream is excruciating especially if your roots are tied to the “motherland”. It is time for Africa to live beyond the equator. Rub and blow your neurons together, rather than live and watch your intellect be sold back to you, in a box or through a piece of garment. You then, cry. Yes,Tears are words that need to be written. Write! Notice that, write and do are at equivalence here. Its time we SAY IT, AFRICA! We are kissed by the sun twice. We don’t sweat, we shimmer. NOW SHIMMER! Berlin, i left you because i had to go elsewhere. I will forever treasure your taste..Image

I captured you to taste you twice, in the moment and in retrospect. What if i told you I had quit it all before this trip to Berlin? Absence of pleasure,OF LAUGHTER in my life, stale dreams, wishing and restlessness. Going to the bus stop weighed me down. Being “South of the Equator” weighed me down. Felt like i was dead. And then this trip came.. YOU saved me. Thank you God. Thank you Berlin. You saved me.

till next time, because i got more.

One BERLIN FLEA MARKET..

IMG_2463
GERMANY-BERLIN FLEA MARKETS VS BOTSWANA FLEA MARKETS
One Sunday morning, While in Berlin, we decided to do some frugal shopping in Manuerpark- a flea market nearby our hotel. Met by Culture buffs, enticing performances, art nuts, fashion lovers and foodies, we made our way to the “street style party”. I could not help it but compare it to our very own here in Botswana, BBS (BOCCIM) flea market. I noticed that, in BERLIN flea markets are like a carnival festival but oldie clothed. Quick, think of the hottest summer festival and a fashion swap. Yes. One big street style party- with different people of different races, fashion misses and hits, Younger hipsters, bargain hunters, treasure hunters and happy hippies strolling through their Sunday.

There is an irie mix of vintage, art, music and fashion, ranging from junk via antiques to kitsch- something for all shapes, tastes and pockets. Not only does the flea marvel in clothing, furniture and household trade but also in cultural artefacts, to performances by the Berliners, which are of particular delight to a creative individual. One huge noticeable difference between Botswana and Berlin flea market is that the berlin flea brings people together, the atmosphere is to appreciate the inherent cycles of all creations, to find new information in the repetition of a familiar object or practice. I must add that i felt at home as the Berliners have no shame in buying in flea markets. I guess the combined effort to produce a diverse display of culture baggage, handcrafted artefacts that represent the creative essence of Berlin make the atmosphere more of a conversation rather than a monologue, perfectly. Inspired by the set up, Young designers also display their works/collections at the flea market too- Aspects that Botswana flea market could incorporate! All in all, this one Berlin flea market is not only for trade, but of course for a great BBQ,enticed chill and laugh thorough-out a sunny Saturday or Sunday afternoon. ONE ADVISE IS, Be prepared to haggle, and don’t let the traders rip you off for being a tourist. While haggling my way through these pieces, I swear I saw ROSE’s neck-piece from TITANIC, in some of those vintage accessories stalls!:)

BERLIN and the KHOI- FRO

I am done traveling long distances just to capture a whole lake, or dilapidated building on a microchip.
I have seen and lived the most breath-taking moments in Berlin that i did not have the urge to snap away. The moment lives. In me. And if i had captured it then i wouldn’t want to go back. Anyways still on the rail, My hope is that through this chosen medium of self expression i can inspire a person or two to rub their hands together and create their fire.

BERLIN FASHION WEEK

FASHION SHOWS

Fashion shows, exhibitions, trade shows and plenty of events attracted internationally acclaimed designers, reviewers as well as fashion enthusiasts to the fashion metropolis of Berlin. The Bread and Butter fashion fair was among our favourite, 600 exhibitors showing everyday fashion! The Premium at Gleisdreieck and the Mercedes Benz fashion week was the icing of the cake! The catwalk colours where bright and we were reminded how the colour palette for next season was as well as the trends. Graphics, monochromatic fashion, flower bed, colour, silk graphic scarves for both men and women, men’s fashion from 2 500designers all over the world. Metal patterned eyewear and shoes provided a chic wink to the futurist trend. All in all, the storyline for Berlin fashion week was futurist classic.

THE FASHION TRADE SHOWS

Themed “if you do it right, it will last forever”, design, contemporary fashion and accessories is what the ETHNICALLY fashion show International trade fair is all about, for eco-fair street and casual wear. I particularly felt Bread and butter was my cloud 9, whereas the International Premium trade show in simple terms was a place where brands meet.20130409_standbild_712x400_jpg_712x400_crop_q85tom_jpg_706x400_crop_upscale_q85

PRESS CONFERENCE Africa Fashion Day Berlin: DR AUMA OBAMA (Obama’s sister) giving a speech about Africa fashion Day, Africa and the diaspora. “Africa is increasingly seen as a continent with complex cultures and traditions which generates unique and distinct talents. In many ways, Africa can and must be regarded as an equal partner in the creative sector by now. Africa Fashion Day Berlin is an excellent example for this development. It is perfectly suited to demonstrate Africa’s growing self-awareness and presence on the world stage.” far left: Beatrice Angut Oola, founder of Africa Fashion Day Berlin, said, “We are becoming global. Everything is international and I think African fashion has a place. Left: Jewelry designer.

BERLIN – THE INSPIRATIONS

Germany Land of IDEAS and INNOVATION BERLIN

They created a whole living room, a family room, from light bulb, to the PC, the LCD, to the fan its no doubt that Berlin is such an inspirational city. From beautiful architectural that form their way into clothes to mouth-watering dishes that represent a perfect ingredient from each country.Though some buildings looks dilapidated, they add a certain ancient look and some strength as part of the city’s art and tourist attraction. Nonetheless, just inhaling Berlin air, gives one inspiration in small doses.

THE MEN

The men are forever snap ready. 80% of the stylish people are saw where men, and they wore colour and texture really well.cool.

THE MUSIC

i ARRIVED IN berlin, FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL, the driver turned on KISS FM. I didnt think id hear a hip hop song nor rnb song, KISS FM played Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams. This song will forever remind me of Berlin is “Get lucky”. What an appropriate song title. It PLAYED IN EVERY i hopped onto, plus Pharrell Williams was in BERLIN for the MERCEDES-BENZ fashion week. How perfect?? :)!

I explored my own creative identity while integrating art and culture, fashion and textile knowledge, material testing & visualization media relations, art direction, innovation and creative techniques, trends, branding, creative entrepreneurship and sustainability all in one. This trip has helped me gain practical skills in developing Botswana’s own fashion industry. It has also exposed me to an in-depth knowledge of trade, collaborating, coordinating, visualization of new fashion designs, patterns and accessories.

Given my commitment to advocating for confidence building, fashion and being part of a highly respectable fashion consultants personnel in Botswana, GaTsh Fros, i am encouraged to provide efficient and developed information in all fields of fashion and culture for Botswana.

This trip gave me a whole new perspective towards business, work, fashion and my life in general. From today onwards, it is my secret ingredient. Only I know what to do from now onwards AND give Botswana fashion a wink of confidence.
